A Creative Renewal
Tabitha Reutter grew up in Upstate New York, immersed in nature and boundless creativity. Inspired by her artistic mother and craftsman father, she explored wood carving, painting, pottery, and colorful collages from a young age.
She earned her BFA in Design from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, and embarked on a design career in the fast-paced world of NYC. After five exhausting and disheartening years in advertising, Tabitha realized it was time for a change. She sought tranquility and moved to the Pacific Northwest with her husband and their dog, Cashew. Surrounded by the calm of her new environment, Tabitha rediscovered her passion for art and reconnected with her creative practice.
Expressive. Intuitive. Abstract.
Tabitha's creative process is intuitive and dynamic, marked by bold color, texture, and form exploration. Tabitha uses layers and textures to build each piece through expressive movement and thoughtful experimentation. Her design background and interest in color theory guide her choice of unexpected color combinations while thick, tactile paint applications create a multi-dimensional appearance. Through these techniques, she has developed a unique style that is both emotionally raw and visually striking.
Psychology and nature-inspired
Deeply influenced by psychology and the natural world, Tabitha's work explores the intricate interplay between human perception and internal and external environments. Each piece is crafted to release embedded emotions and invite contemplation of the layers of perception that shape our unique experiences. By blending psychological themes with natural forms, her art resembles vibrant, dancing cells observed under a microscope, symbolizing the connection between the mind and biology. Drawing inspiration from diverse settings, Tabitha frequently depicts abstract nature scenes, often highlighting her fascination with fungi as metaphors for growth, interconnection, and resilience.
Environmentally conscientious art
Eliminating waste and upcycling are at the top of Tabitha's mind. She frequents local thrift shops for frames to refurbish, mattes, and other lightly used art supplies to incorporate into her work. Additionally, she seeks creative ways to transform her paper scraps, imperfect prints, and palettes into her collage pieces and packaging. Currently, she is experimenting with using these extras as one-of-a-kind stickers.
